QANTU FLOWER, HILADO, LLICLLA AND ANDEAN LANDSCAPES

THE INSPIRATION

The textile work created for the Jorge Chávez International Airport's formal lounge is a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Peruvian highland clothing, inspired by the lliclla, alpaca yarn, and the profound connection between textiles and the Andean worldview. Hand-weaving and jacquard techniques merge to capture the vibrant essence of the Andean landscape.

In this abstract piece, intense reddish and fuchsia colors—inspired by the Qantu or Cantuta flower—come together with sinuous, stylized patterns that evoke the natural fluidity of earth sediments. Its psychedelic palette and volumetric textures reflect the iridescence of the local flora and fauna, such as the hummingbird's constant movement among the high-altitude flowers.

More than a literal representation, the work is a sensorial landscape that intertwines tradition and modernity, paying homage to the chromatic, symbolic, and textile richness of the Andes in a contemporary expression.
